LDS Fine Art and Artists

by admin

LDS painters are always looking for a new way to express their faith. LDS fine artists spend countless hours perfecting their work. Because of the sacred nature of the subject matter LDS fine artists want their work to show the perfection of the subject matter, especially when working on paintings of the Savior. Other subject matter that such an artist would undertake and try to present with the most detail and as perfect as possible would be that of prophets, temples, and things dealing with the restoration.

Many LDS fine artists are commissioned by the church to paint specific paintings to be used by the church for things like Sunday School. Not all LDS artists are fine artist, however. Some LDS artists paint to develop their talents, such as George D. Durrant. He took up water colors to work on something new after a successful career as a professor at Brigham Young University. He had graduated in art and was never able to use his talents until after he retired.

Whether painting for fun or for a specific purpose for the Mormon Church, LDS artists want to share their faith with others and be able to share their testimonies through their talents. Whether a fine artist or not LDS artists feel that by using their talents that God has given them that they can bless live through this medium and spread the gospel of Christ. The Mormon church teaches their members to find their talents, improve upon them, and by so doing be able to receive blessings from heaven.
